The Vatican and the Senator John Heinz History Center are working with the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik and Saint Anthony's Chapel to exhibit rarely seen regional artifacts and historical documents.
The exhibition will run from October 2, 2010 through January 9, 2011.
The Vatican Splendors exhibition, will include:
- Relics from Pittsburgh's own St. Anthony's Chapel
- Father Mollinger's personal artifacts
- Nearly 200 unique items from the Vatican
- Mosaic by Giotto
- Works by Michelangelo
- Works by Guercino's - the first modern painting of Jesus
- Works by Bernini, a baroque urn depicting the Last Supper
- A reliquary containing the remains of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
- Original frescoes of saints created between 1277-1280
- Objects discovered at the tombs of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
- A bronze Cast of the Hand of Pope John Paul II
- Handwritten poem from Pope John Paul II...and so much more!
Many bus companies are currently working with St. Anthony's Chapel to establish tour arrangements for both the Heinz History Center and the Chapel.
