The Portiuncula Indulgence is the first plenary indulgence ever granted in the Church!
An indulgence is the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sin whose guilt has already been forgiven. A partial indulgence removes part of the temporal punishment due to sin and a plenary indulgence removes all punishment.” Pope Honorius granted this indulgence at the request of St. Francis of Assisi.
